Terramesa – Artisan Style With Commercial Durability

About 4 years ago, I visited quite a few Asian factories in search of artisan glazes that would withstand the rigours of commercial use. While I was doubtful that good product already existed, I just had to make sure since many factories were claiming that their crackle and reactive glazes were superior. After 2 weeks of “mind numbing” travel, I came back to the USA with a suitcase overflowing with representative samples. I then sent samples to Steelite’s UK lab for detailed testing and analysis. The lab results were predictable. None of the product was commercially durable and some wasn’t even safe for food service! This is the same product I see in un-enlightened restaurants… complete with chipped edges!

Terramesa

To fulfill a need in the marketplace without relying on inferior third party factories,  Steelite put its design and manufacturing teams to work  to develop the artisan “look” but with durability that rivaled Steelite’s other dinnerware. The result of this effort is Terramesa. The Terramesa dinnerware line encompasses reactive glazes for an artisan presentation while enjoying the commercial durability of Steelite’s Performance dinnerware body.

Terramesa comes in a choice of warm colors;  Mocha, Mustard, Olive, and Wheat… each trimmed in a reactive border. The dinnerware shapes are taken directly from Steelite’s highly successful Taste range… a winning combination of looks and durability for a fantastic casual home dinnerware presentation.

At Tabletopstyle,  you can purchase Terramesa by the piece and build a personal dinnerware set that compliments your lifestyle. Comfort foods will never taste better!

“Taste Basics” from Steelite

Taste Dinnerware

Steelite’s Taste dinnerware shapes have been a hit with restaurants all over the USA, most notably PF Changs, who uses a variety of Taste items together with Steelite’s Zest platters.

The stackability of Taste cannot be beat when space is an issue. The picture at right shows this author’s home cupboard and how little space Taste actually takes.  The stack on the left is 10 8″ Spice plates that are only 3 1/4″ high. On the right are 15 of the 6″ Spice plates and they are only 4 1/2″ high. When I go to PF Changs, I always note how many Taste plates and bowls are stacked in such a compact area.

Taste is manufactured by Steelite using a traditional pin firing vs a foot firing like Asian manufacturers would do. We’ll explain the difference in a future blog so stay tuned!

For home use, Taste is the perfect blend of style and function. The Taste line presents a needed alternative to a “round” presentation and  accordingly,  it provides a bit less formal presentation.

Spice plates are flat and Zest platters are  shallow bowls with the matching round/rectangular edge.

The 8 1/4″ x 7 1/2″ Zest platter is a shallow bowl measuring 1 3/8″ deep “click here”  and is perfect for the steam-in-a bag veggies. The 12″ zest platter makes a great dinner salad or pasta plate.

Steelite’s Quench Mugs are shown at left and are a joy for home use. The large handles  provide excellent stability. Sizes range from 8 to 16 oz. The vitrified Performance body helps keep hot liquids hot and cold drinks cold.

Steelite rounds out its Taste line with a range of bowls including Scoop bowls,  essence bowls and square bowls.  All of Taste is manufactured by Steelite using the Performance chinaware body.
